Sendmail: rejecting connections on daemon MTA: load average

Had an issue with sendmail not sending out mail on a CentOS system. In looking at maillog, saw these messages:

Oct 29 00:00:07 host1 sendmail[12058]: rejecting connections on daemon MTA: load average: 304

Basically, sendmail will not send out any emails with a load average so high. So reduced the load problem (hung processes), and the load average started to drop and finally emails went out. See below:

Oct 29 00:00:01 host1 sendmail[16747]: o9T0017n016747: to=oracle, delay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30373, stat=queued

First you should check CPU process..via TOP command..
I am sure it might be 80-90%..if it is…reboot the machine..

    I got solution..

    vi /etc/mail/sendmail.cf and /etc/mail/submit.cf

    change the “#O RefuseLA=12″ line to O RefuseLA=150 or pick a number… 200, 250 then restart sendmail

    Thanks for the solution Lokesh!!
